Syro Malabar Church

The Syro-Malabar Church is one of the Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with the Holy See, with a rich apostolic heritage rooted in the tradition of St. Thomas the Apostle. According to the ancient tradition of the Church, St. Thomas arrived in India in the first century and proclaimed the Gospel, laying the foundation for a Christian community that has preserved its faith and traditions through generations.

The Church is deeply rooted in the East Syriac liturgical tradition, with the Holy Qurbana at the heart of its spiritual life. Through prayer, the sacraments, family life, and community fellowship, the Syro-Malabar Church seeks to nurture a living faith in Jesus Christ while preserving its rich spiritual, cultural, and liturgical heritage. Today, the Church has a vibrant presence across India and in communities around the world.

The Syro-Malabar Church is currently headed by His Beatitude Mar Raphael Thattil, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, who was elected by the Synod of Bishops in January 2024 and enthroned as Major Archbishop in January 2024. Under his pastoral leadership, the Church continues its mission of proclaiming the Gospel, strengthening families and communities, nurturing young people, and serving society with faith, compassion, and love.
